She saw them walk in. Tourists. Probably honeymooners. The guy looked... confident.

The kind of confident that means trouble.

He smiled. She braced.

“Dua fèn jīròu fàn, jiā huángguā, boleh lah?”

Ah. A foreigner trying to be local. She admired that. Sort of.

Did he say huángguā? Or huánglóu? Pineapple?

She smiled. Bowed. Disappeared into the kitchen with quiet dignity — and absolutely no idea what he just ordered.

“Boss, two chicken rice. Extra... something. Sounds like pineapple?”

He nodded, as if to say: Yes. Yes, that’s exactly what Love tastes like.

Back out she went. Pineapple rings arranged like Olympic medals. Glazed pork — her personal touch.

She bowed. The wife’s eyes flickered. The whispering began.

She didn’t hear the words. But she knew that look. That cucumber-shaped disappointment.

People think chicken rice is simple.

She leans over, uninvited, inspecting the plate.

“Pineapple’s good for digestion. That’s probably why they gave it to you. Not a mistake. A blessing.”

She sips soup with finality. She has spoken.
